there are more chat systems than fleas on a dog.  leif suggested xmpp
and no one else spoke up (you swedes get what you deserve:).  he
asked me to put up a room.  i did.

if you have something better, i am always interested in an excuse to
explore rather than get work done :).  but first explain its security
and persistence properties, as those seemed to be desired.
