Argh, no, the PL2303 is the tool of Satan.  Even if you ignore the fact that
Profilic produce a string of incompatible variants that are all labelled as
PL2303's and you have to spend half an hour googling to find that your
HXAOG2(b)XF(1) may sometimes work with your OS version but not the HXAOG2(b)
XF(2)), there are also an infinite number of Chinese clones (or at least
attempted clones) that suck even more than the Prolific mess (the vast
majority of the cheap USB-to-serial adapters you can find online seem to be
not-very-cloned ones, not Prolific originals).

With FTDI on the other hand you just plug it in and it works.
