That was highly embarrassing, sorry. You are absolutely right. I wrote
the text2bin extractor in Python3 and looked at the hexdump to visually
compare the result. But quite obviously didn't look good enough. One
could think that opening a device for binary read and then write values
between 0 and 255 would result in a file with bytes. With Python 3, not
so much.

I've fixed my extractor and checked the result and now it really seems
to contain the same bytes as extracted. And LZ77 based compression does
not find any meaningful sequences to compress.
